When Did The Titanic Sink

The Titanic sinking took place at 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, approximately three hours after it struck an iceberg near Newfoundland, in the Atlantic ocean.

At the time, the Titanic was on its maiden voyage (first time out) from Southampton, England to New York City.

In the hours after the Titanic hit the iceberg, only 705 people managed to get into lifeboats (despite the lifeboats’ capacity for 1,178) before the ship sank.

The RMS Carpathia, which had received the Titanic’s distress call at midnight, rescued those 705 people, but 1,512 Titanic passengers and crew died.
